Ross spent his prior 15 years at Wells Fargo bank. For the last 8 years he was the portfolio manager of the $11B proprietary corporate investment portfolio. Primary asset categories were US and European bonds, bank debt, leveraged loans, convertible bonds, credit default swaps, securitizations, receivables and bespoke transactions. Investment approach was rigorous fundamental analysis, employing a risk adjusted return lens. Based on intensive credit, structural, and legal analysis, each investment was internally risk rated and continuously monitored. Interest rate risk and currency risk hedged to isolate a long or short credit risk. Managed investment teams located in San Francisco, New York, and London. Responsible for all aspects of portfolio management and represented the portfolio to senior management and regulators.
Prior to taking over the above proprietary corporate investment portfolio, Ross launched the proprietary tax-exempt portfolio. This included launching the high yield tax-exempt portfolio, the real estate tax-exempt portfolio, long /short CDS hedged corporate tax-exempt portfolio, and the private placement initiative. Built portfolio from $200mm of legacy bonds to $6B. As founding member, he designed a disciplined risk assessment protocol, a portfolio framework, defined risk metrics, and built team. Captured numerous market inefficiencies through active and opportunistic market participation verses the typical market complacency that relied heavily on sell side. Capitalized on: mispricing of overall credit risk in a credit agency dominated marketplace, mispricing of issuer optionality, mispricing of liquidity, lack of cross-over buyers from corporate space, sourcing private placements.
Prior role originating and structuring real estate equity joint-venture and participating debt investments for GE Capital. Managed full cycle of investing - investment origination, leading due diligence team, negotiation, and seeking approval from GE Capital Credit Committee. Individually sourced and invested $90mm of joint venture leveraged equity, and $325mm of participating debt. Teamed on $2B of additional investments.
